Wishing I had a Gypsy Caravan

Do you remember Kizzy? I googled it this morning and can you believe it the BBC first aired it in 1976! My curiosity was sparked because I found this gorgeous card yesterday. I loved that series and ever since I have had a hankering for my very own little caravan hidden away in a remote corner of the garden.

This image is from my favourite childhood story and I would gaze at this for hours imagining what it would be like inside the caravans. My Mum always bought me such beautifully illustrated books and I have kept most of them.

The first time I went to Sarah Raven's garden at Perch Hill I was stunned and green with envy when I saw her wonderful Caravan. I think technically this one is a shepherd's hut. I love the green paint. I am just as desperate to see inside this one as I was my illustrated ones!

I couldn't resist this card from the same range. I know, I know, quit the sweet pea obsession! How gorgeous is the paint on the stool, all scuffed and worn and dont even get me started on the cushion, I wish I was clever enough to embroider with knots and ribbons.

I love this interior, I kept it from a magazine article about hideaways. This was actually inside one of those 1950's motorhomes. I am just going to throw myself face down onto those cushions!

All very good incentive to save my pennies!
One day..............

  1. Ah ooo stunning, we go to a farm sale every year and they always have a few little gypsy caravans for sale, i think too small for adults but my little girls would have loved them, they went for about 250 each, not alout at all, i was really surprised...maybe i should invest next year. Love the photos youve used in this post, very inspirring! Kirsty x

  2. I don't know if you have heard of the enterprising Roskilly family from the Lizard Cornwall... Once upon a time they had three authentic Romany caravans permanently moored in a field.. they were rented as a holiday home.. and were beautifully furnished with traditional trappings..
I would love to know if they are still there...

  3. Oh golly, a woman after my own heart, it has always been my dream to have a gypsy caravan, bit of a standing joke in my family. We stayed at a B&B in Dorset a few years ago and they had a gypsy caravan in their gardens which you could stay in. In fact, our little dream once the other half gives up the city is to have a place in the country with its own cottages to rent out supplemented by a few gypsy caravans (OH wants a railway coach too, not so sure about that one!)
My sister and I write each other letters in pretty cards just like the one above. We have quite a collection now.
So glad to have discovered your blog, v pretty indeed.

  5. Lots more beautiful photos!
I love the cards you bought.
I've always loved those little caravans too as a hideaway, bunting and long cool drinks in the summer, blankets and hot chocolate in the winter. Dreaming I can do!

Called 'raggeled taggeled gypsy..' for the life of me, I can't remember how it goes, but seeing the caravan above & the name Kizzy bought it all back... thank god am no longer wearing those hideous flares I wore back then...!!!!
