See you again next year

The days are short,
The sun a spark
Hung thin between
The dark and dark.

Fat snowy footsteps
Track the floor,
And parkas pile up
Near the door.

The river is
A frozen place
Held still beneath
The trees' black lace.

The sky is low.
The wind is gray.
The radiator
Purrs all day.

"JANUARY" by John Updike

Strange to think that January is almost finnished, the first month of the year seems such a long month as the days tick by but then when February looms I wonder where January went!

abientot Janvier

  1. What a heavenly post! Is that your door in the photos? Lots of love, Amanda xxxx

  2. Lovely post and pictures sarah - made January feel much nicer!

  3. I feel like January was a mere will o' the wisp - here one minute, gone the next.

Now the year begins (or so it seems)

  4. Gorgeous photographs as always - I love your gate!

January feels like it has been one long grey slog here so I am not sad to bid it farewell. I am hoping for a crisp, cold February to see off Winter and then I think I will be truly ready for Spring.

  5. I love this post and I love LOVE that second image in particular!
Have a sweetest of Sundays, Sarah. Enjoy these last two jours de Janvier xxx

  6. your photos make winter so lovely....January has been a very long month enveloped in snow here in the northeast's hoping for a warmer February!

  7. Begone January! Though it treated me more gently than normally. Or I learned how to live gracefully through it.

February spells much work ( Valentines Day) and more light. Then March and spring!

    Lovely thought.

    xo Jane

  8. For a minute there I thought we were not going to hear from you again till next year! And then I read your lovely post. Where in Cornwall are you going too? Jane xx

  9. Me too I thought that was you done for the year! Thank you for sharing the poem. Time is indeed ticking away.
    Have a lovely week.

  12. Goodbye January...Hello Febraury...the month of love. xoxoxo

  13. While I'm craving
    sweet spring blossoms,
    I am still enjoying
    it while this part
    of the earth sleeps...
    Gentle snows, dark
    mornings, cozy fires ~
    all have their appeal.
    Love your photos, Sarah!
    xx Suzanne
