Peeping out from the toadstools!

Now if there is one thing that is guaranteed to lure me out of my self imposed hermitage ~ wide eyed and sparklingwith pleasure then it is the wonder of autumn fairy rings that magically spring up overnight in the woods.
The woods are magical at any time but early autumn mornings are glorious. This morning I was rewarded with the prettiest, laciest, leafiest curtain, green with golden shafts of sunlight dancing through it.

The fairies are having a whale of a time weaving their jewelled cobwebs, threading them through twigs and stems and the toadstools are nestled low amongst the moss and early leaf fall.

I get a flutter of excitement with every new one I spot!

Imagine this ring all lit up with fairy lanterns and the dancing.........

Fascinating aren't they?

Time to pause by the gate and breathe in a lungful of warm blackberry breeze

more treasures to spot, tee hee!

I wonder who lives here?

If I had been here half an hour earlier perhaps I would have seen this

Now they are tucked away, hidden from nosey parkers like me! Brunching on fairy cakes I hope

All this musing has reminded me of my favourite fairy from the Magpie and the Wardrobe, here she is

So excited to be back, sorry for the extended silence.....totally unplanned, it seems life got a bit overcrowded!
A warm welcome to you all old and new friends.

  9. I have never seen such a wonderful collection of Fly Agaric.. and sorry if I sound swotty .. I just love the name and the whole mythology of these fine fungi. They have to be one of the most beautiful of toadstools and if Alice liked them .. well that's good enough for me.

  15. Great to see you back ... with a magical post!
I've never seen red and white toadstools, just the drab brown ones. They are so lovely, no wonder we believe fairies must be at work!
    Love Kathy xxx

  16. I am soooo jealous , I 'd be happy to find just one of these and you have found loads ..

  17. Amazing shots. I've never even seen one, although I adore the imagery of red spotty toadstools. I'd love to walk that walk with you. I'll definately take the Bun's on your visual one as they'll love it, especially as they have fairies of their own that they write to called Flora and Lily.

Good to hear your voice again by the way.

  18. Welcome back and what a lovely blog to come back with! Those toadstools are a bright flash of colour in the brown leaves - wonderful.

  19. I've missed your posts and this is right up my street.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who peeps under toadstools! Do you look for wisps of chimney smoke from gnarled old tree stumps too.

  20. Your images are so magical my so fun...our toadstools never look like that here.

Thank you for your sweet thoughts concerning my Molly...I know she will love England. xoxox

  24. Wonderful post to return with Sarah Jane!
I love traveling vicariously to your lovely part of the world... Your toad stools and vintage pix are pure magic...You have a way of capturing that feeling in your photos!

    Nice to have you back!
    Deborah Jean

Hmmm??? maybe I should just cancel my subscription to English Garden all together and just visit you!

  25. Lovely post! Those cakes are brilliant - I think I may have to have a go at something over at Cottontails - am in kind of a baking mode at the moment so would be perfect. I don't normally plug products but by complete coincidence I have just had a few pretty toys and things in which fit with your post theme - including a fairy post office set which has a kind of toadstool post box - and think I may have to write a blog a bit like yours!
    Love Charlotte

  26. Welcome back!
What a magical post, we have a couple of fairy rings sadly our toadstool/mushrooms are a dismal brown colour, not glorious red, but I think the fairies still dance around them.
Those handmade fairies are beautiful and the cakes look scrumptious.
